Tips and good advice on Futura mouldings for conseiling wiring

Question: my Futura clips keep breaking – what am I doing wrong?

For skirting boards: If the clip bracket breaks off, making the skirting board difficult to fit, it is usually because it is too close to the floor. Use fitting fork 9548 to ensure the distance is correct. Remember: you only need to fit the clip using one screw at the top, making it more flexible. (You will only need two screws for very uneven walls).

For architraves: If part of the clip has broken off, it is probably because you are not following the user guide. Fit the 7 degree angle part first well away from the door opening, then click the round part into place.

Question: What cables can I conceal?

Answer: All double insulated cables can be concealed. A double insulated cable consists of internal and external layers of insulation. When mounting a plug socket or the like, only sealed boxes should be used that can only be opened using tools. Allowing cables to wrap gently around corners is a big advantage, as this prevents any unnecessary radiation escaping that can interfere with other electrical appliances. This can be achieved by cutting channels for internal corners or drilling at an angle through external corners. Always check local and national legislation! If in doubt, contact a qualified electrician.

Question: How can I avoid a large gap at external corners?

Answer: If the wall is uneven, it can be difficult to mount plastic mouldings flush to the wall around external corners. If both surfaces are glued and clips are mounted closer to the corner than recommended in the fitting instructions, even large irregularities can be concealed.

Question: How can I run cable from Futura Architrave to Futura Skirting Board?

Answer: The fitting guide states that Futura skirting board has to be cut at a 7 degree angle to mate with the architrave angle. I do however sometimes find that cables running under the architrave have to pass under the skirting board. But there is no opening in the architrave (where it runs directly to the floor.). Do I need to cut a hole in the side of the architrave? Answer: You can easily make a hole with a saw or knife, just ensure that it complies with the shape of the skirting board. See the illustration for cable holes in the fitting guide
